This experience takes place in the Melbourne CBD. Exact locations vary according to the season and weather.

Session Length:

This Night Photography Class, running for 2 hours, begins half an hour before sunset and thus commences at different times throughout the year.

Guidelines:

You will need to know how to use your camera in manual mode. The minimum age is 15. Any person under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a participating adult.

Dress Code:

Warm clothes for after sunset; fingerless gloves and a warm hat are ideal in winter.

Other Info:

Participants need to supply their own camera equipment, including manual or digital SLR camera, tripod, cable release, memory card and full-charged batteries. Tripods are available for hire at an additional fee. A torch is also recommended, and money if you will require any extra food or drinks.

Numbers:

Groups are kept to a maximum of 6 to ensure the best learning experience for everyone.

Beginning half an hour before sunset, this Night Photography Workshop will begin with instructions on how to set up you camera, tripod and cable release for optimal results. In small groups, this great Melbourne photographer will give you a rundown of the finer points of aperture and shutter speeds so you can make the best of Melbourne's scenery. Watch the sunset, and learn as the light changes.

Upon completion of photographing the city at night, discussing location, angles, light, digital vs. film, and the other fascinating aspects of manual photography, you'll be taken to a nearby cafe, where the photographer will buy you a drink to discuss your digital results. If you have a film camera, you're welcome to email the proceedings of the night back to the photographer for critiquing.
