Our glass studio is set on 6 acres. The first mosaic greets you at the gate and beyond that, your glass artist, Marina Villani will welcome you with a coffee or tea and a quick tour of the studio.
Aside from the many pieces on display, you will also find inspiration in the many photos of past students? work and an extensive mosaic library. The project for the day is a trivet, which can be used as a pot stand or as a hanging artwork. The focus for this first piece is applying the technique.
Your workshop then begins with an overview of safety procedures and an introduction to the tools and equipment you will be using. The day is mostly hands-on punctuated with instructions and demonstrations to move you through the program:
* Use of oil glass cutter
* Straight cuts, curves and shapes
* Use of mosaic cutters
* Suitable designs layouts and colour choice
* Cut and commit
At 1pm we take a break and enjoy a light 3-course lunch to give you a chance to take it all in and to share and compare with fellow classmates in a relaxed atmosphere. Then it?s back to work!
* Grouting
* Sealing
* Finishing off
There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and you will leave with a comprehensive set of class notes, a finished project and the necessary skills to complete your next ?solo? project.
